24100_364412866488_4973253_nThe Reverend David Tolhurst – Vicar of Silksworth

David is married to Natalie and they have a son Andrew. David was born in the South East of England, but has lived in the North East for some years now and feels rooted and grounded here. David and Andrew are Sunderland AFC season ticket holders.

Before being invited to become the twelfth Vicar of Silksworth back in October 2012 David served the parishes of Sadberge and Middleton St George near Darlington as Curate. David was Ordained at Durham Cathedral in 2009 by The Right Reverend Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham after studying theology at Durham University. Prior to ordination David was a manager in the public sector for 15 years.

David’s has a passion and vision for education in the Church of England actively supporting our local Church of England schools and community schools. David is keen on the church embracing new methods of communication in this digital age as well as keeping up our traditional ones.

As Vicar David is actively supported by a great team of people here at St Matthew’s including Church Wardens Colin Burnikell and John Farnsworth and the Parochial Church Council.

Petrica was ordained deacon in July 2016 by TheRt Rev’d Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham after studying theology and ministry at Durham University and has joined us here at St Matthew’s for the next 3-4 years, Petrica is already a treasured part of the church family and we look forward to the coming few years.
